Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in florida above 9,000
The cases of COVID-19 continue to grow in Florida, the infections confirmed by COVID-19 in the state amount to 9,008, while the number of deaths from the disease totals 144.
The latest data from the Florida Department of Health, hospital admissions are also increasing and 1,167 people are already being treated in health centers for the virus.
The governor's order will take effect at midnight today and will force all non-essential businesses to close, several lawmakers see this measure as insufficient because the population will continue to be exposed, said Democratic Congresswoman Donna Shalala.
"No one in South Florida believes they should go to church, our archbishop of the Catholic Church has said he will do virtual religious services," added the congresswoman.
South Florida is the area most affected by the pandemic, with Miami-Dade and Broward counties having the highest numbers of infections with 2,886 and 1,481 respectively.
In some areas of North Florida such as Dixie, Lafayette or Taylor County, no cases of coronavirus have yet been detected, according to official data. Meanwhile, throughout the state there have been 80,356 tests, of which 11 have been positive.
