Launch of the first bus rapid transit in Tampa Bay

The launch date for the SunRunner, the first bus rapid transit of its kind in the Tampa Bay region, has been officially announced. The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority. This long-awaited service is scheduled to begin on October 21, 2022.

Brad Miller, Executive Director of PST, said “I am excited to officially announce the grand opening of SunRunner, a project that will truly transform the Tampa Bay region”, “As our area’s first rapid transit system, SunRunner will introduce better customer service, connectivity, and will foster new economic growth for the region.”

The 10.3-mile line will connect St. Pete Beach, one of the best beaches in the United States, with downtown St. Petersburg. The SunRunner features passenger safety enhancements, including level boarding platforms and crosswalks. It will include 30 stations with buses that will run every 15 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes at night.

For the first 6 months of service, the SunRunner will be free to passengers. Published by The Tampa Herald, news and information agency.
