The TikTok social network will allocate $ 200 million for its most popular users

The social network, known for its casual, artistic and humorous videos, has enjoyed an explosion of popularity during the confinement of the new coronavirus pandemic, especially among young people.
TikTok will have a $ 200 million fund to directly remunerate some of the creators who post videos on its platform, the company announced.

The fund will initially be endowed with 200 million dollars, but will be later, the company said, adding that they will be distributed very soon among the creators.
To apply to receive money from the fund, you must be over 18 years old, have a certain minimum number of followers and frequently publish videos that comply with the rules of the platform.

"Our creators will be able to take advantage of additional earnings that help reward the care and dedication they put in creatively connecting with an audience that is inspired by their ideas," TikTok said in a statement.

Acquiring and retaining creators who attract the attention of large numbers of followers has become a challenge for social networks that dispute the attention of users.

YouTube allows creators who have crossed certain thresholds, such as number of subscribers and broadcast times, to attach advertising to their content to make profit from their videos.

The video company of the giant Google also has agreements with some stars, such as the Swiss PewDiePie, with whom it has an exclusive agreement for the dissemination of its videos.

TikTok has worked following the Instagram model, where creators can include sponsored videos but there is no direct remuneration program for this size.

The video network has not specified how many people qualify for these funds or how much money they will receive.

But this decision should help the company strengthen its ties with some of the creators who have become known on its platform but whose current fame exceeds the limits of the application. Many of them have won advertising contracts and have appeared on magazine covers.
TikTok belongs to the Chinese group ByteDance and has nearly 1 billion users.
