France, people who already had COVID would receive a single vaccine
The French health authorities advised proposing a single dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 to people who already had the coronavirus, becoming the first country to make this recommendation.
People who had COVID-19 have already developed an immunological memory after the infection so the single dose of the vaccine will thus play a reminder role, explained the French High Health Authority (HAS), in a recommendation it must still receive the endorsement of the government .
The HAS also recommends that these people wait beyond three months after having COVID, and preferably six months, before injecting this single dose.
"To date, no country has taken a clear position on single-dose vaccination for people who have already contracted COVID-19," say French health authorities
In recent days, this solution has been mentioned in several studies in the United States and Italy, but it has not yet been evaluated by other scientists.
The researchers responsible for the studies pointed out that giving a single injection to people who already had the coronavirus could save doses in a context of low supply.
France surpassed the threshold of 80,000 deaths from COVID-19 earlier this week, with more than 700 new deaths in hospital and nursing homes a day.
At least 1.9 million people have received at least one dose of the vaccines administered in France, and 366,733 the two necessary doses.
