Russian vaccine Sputnik V is 95 percent effective
Sputnik V, the Russian vaccine, showed 42 days after the first dose an efficacy of more than 95 percent, as announced in a statement by the Gamaleya Center and the Russian Direct Investment Fund (FIDR). According to preliminary data from the second analysis, the effectiveness of the Russian vaccine after 28 days is 91.4 percent.
The clinical analyzes showed, for an efficacy of 91.4 percent, a total of 39 infected, including the volunteers who received placebo (31) and those who received the vaccine (8). In total, 14,095 volunteers received the vaccine and 4,699, the placebo, according to the official note.
Currently, 40,000 volunteers participate in phase three, of which more than 22,000 were injected with the first dose and 19,000 received both the first and second. During the analyzes, the Russian experts did not detect any unexpected adverse reactions to the vaccine among the volunteers.
Russia has already launched the production of the dehydrated vaccine, based on freeze-drying technology, which will significantly facilitate its transport to international markets, including regions with difficult access and others with tropical climates.
The first batch of Sputnik V for the foreign market will reach customers in January 2021 on the basis of the agreements already signed with foreign partners.
