COVID-19, More than 26 million infections in the world
Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 26,074,140 people have contracted the disease. Of these, at least 17,071,200 were recovered, according to authorities.
The new coronavirus has caused at least 863,679 deaths in the world since the office of the World Health Organization in China reported the appearance of the disease in December, according to an established balance.
This number of positive diagnosed cases only reflects a part of all infections due to the disparate policies of different countries to diagnose cases, some only do so with those people who need hospitalization and in a large number of poor countries the ability to testing is limited.
On Wednesday, 5,944 new deaths and 265,250 infections were registered in the world. The countries that recorded the most deaths according to the latest official balances are Brazil with 1,184, the United States 1,080 and India 1,043.
The number of deaths in the United States amounts to 185,752 with 6,115,030 infections. The authorities consider that 2,231,757 people were healed.
After the United States, the countries with the most fatalities are Brazil with 123,780 deaths and 3,997,865 cases, India with 67,376 deaths (3,853,406 cases), Mexico with 65,816 deaths (610,957 cases), and the United Kingdom with 41,514 deaths (338,676 cases).
Among the countries hardest hit, Peru has the highest mortality rate, with 89 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, followed by Belgium (85), Spain (62), the United Kingdom (61), and Chile (59). China, without taking into account the territories of Hong Kong and Macao, registered a total of 85,077 infected people, of which 4,634 died and 80,251 were fully healed.
This balance was made using data from national authorities collected by AFP offices and with information from the World Health Organization (WHO).
